Weather Just 80km north of the equator, Singapore is generally hot and humid throughout the year. The average temperature is 27C with a mean temperature of 31C during the day. It is generally cooler before dawn at around 24C. Relative humidity exceeds 90% at night but on dry afternoons it can drop to 60%. |

Visa Requirement. Generally no tourist visa is required for most nationals and a 30-day period of stay is normally granted. However, if you want to work in Singapore as a non- permanent resident, a work permit is required. |

Income Tax If you reside in Singapore over 183 days in a year, you are regarded as a resident for income tax purposes and are liable for income tax on all income derived in Singapore. |

Food and Entertainment The vast variety of cuisines in Singapore reflects its cultural mix. There's an abundance of good Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian dishes at the food markets, as well as restaurants to suit every tastes A wide range of entertainment is available, from theatres to discos. |

Transport Singapore is a small country well connected by public transport (usually air-conditioned). The underground system: Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) runs along two lines, west to east and north looping back to the south. Buses and taxis are inexpensive. |

Rules and Regulations Singapore prides itself on having a clean and pleasant environment. Littering and gum chewing are strictly prohibited and heavy fines may be imposed. Smoking is not allowed in government offices, air conditioned restaurants, shopping malls, cinemas, hospitals, lifts and on public transport. Tipping is not encouraged and most restaurants include a 10% tip. Drug dealing and drug use are subject to the death penalty. |
