INTERVIEW TIPS
Dress appropriately. This means finding out what the accepted dress code is and wearing it. If your interview is with a company where everyone is super smart and suited, then you should do the same. If you are hoping to join a company where business casual is the rule, then you'd better make sure you adhere to that rule. If in doubt, go smart.
Turn off your mobile phone! We've heard of one would be job-seeker, who was recently ejected from an interview after taking not one, but two calls, and they were from recruitment agencies! Give your interviewer all of your attention. Keeping your phone or pager on only gives the signal that you are not one hundred percent interested in what is going on. If you must leave your phone on for emergency reasons, it is polite to notify your interviewer before the interview starts.
Take the time to clear your mind before your interview. Try to relax, and prepare yourself mentally. You should try and concentrate on your strategies for marketing yourself to your interviewer and convey these in your communication throughout your interview. It is valuable to have a target at every interview - tell yourself that you want this job, that you are going to win over other candidates, and that you are confident enough to impress the interviewer. If you go into an interview with these thoughts, your manner will portray your commitment.
Your first impression is very important. Look confident (even if you don't feel it). You can achieve this by making sure that you have good posture, that you smile and that you maintain eye contact
Take a resume with you with full details covering your personal data, education, work history, achievements, and references. Some companies require you to fill in an application form, with the details on your resume. It can sometimes be very difficult to remember exact details, so be prepared.
Do your homework - thoroughly research the company and the position that you are applying for. Visit the company Website and search out press releases on the company through related sites. Understand what it is that the company does and how they are positioned in the market.
Be attentive during the interview. If you don't understand an interviewer's question, ask the interviewer to repeat the specific question. It is better to ask the interviewer to repeat the question than to guess and get your answer totally wrong.
Be willing to give information about yourself your plans and your background. Be as open with your interviewer as you can be.
Be direct and to the point in answering the questions that you get asked. Never talk in circles. Interviewers will always ask you open-ended questions, so don't be shy and give short answers. Take some time, if necessary, to think about your answers. Don't just say the first thing that comes into your head. Answer in an appropriate length and talk with enthusiasm.
Ask a few sensible questions related to the opportunity at hand. Perhaps prepare some questions before the interview starts, maybe about the company or the specific position you are interviewing for. Questions show interest and that you've done your research.
Show your enthusiasm about the position. This is an important signal for the interviewer in making his/her assessment. You should have already thought about why you want the position and how you can add value to the role. Make sure the interviewer understands this.
Finally, make sure you thank the interviewer for his/her time. Even if you decide that the position is not right for you, the interview is a useful process to go through. The final impression you make is also important. Following the interview up with a thank you note often ensures that the door will remain open for you at a later date.
